ARTFULLY CRAFTED. PERSONALLY INSPIRED.

Welcome to Dogwood Hill! A reflection of our founder’s hometown, Dogwood Hill is representative of all the ways our products can be enjoyed: a church for weddings and baptisms, a tearoom for social gatherings, a pond for summer celebrations, a town square where shops and entrepreneurs can be found, and homes where parties are planned, rooms are decorated, and holiday cards are addressed. Each detail has been thoughtfully considered with our community in mind.

Our story began in 2014 when our founder, Jennifer Hunt—a busy mother of two who moonlights as an accountant and an art dealer—waited a touch too long to order her holiday cards. Like many busy women before her, Jennifer found that booking an artist to create the hand-lettered cards she wanted was not a possibility. She took to the web, but her efforts were futile. No one was delivering online customizable calligraphy and art-driven holiday stationery. That is when the idea sprung for a website where discerning customers could go for hand-made cards that were thoughtfully and gorgeously created featuring art by real artists. No need for pricey design fees, lengthy production times or settling for the mass-produced.

With its collective of thirty artists (and growing!), Dogwood Hill is able to supply products within ten days that are as unique as the intended recipients. With each artist's distinctive style, you’ll find an item to suit your taste. Artwork is created by hand, the paper is luxurious and, to ensure your photo-based cards feel truly your own, we’ve made it easy to upload photos and personalize messages. No detail is overlooked. We believe stationery should reflect the sender’s personality and delight the recipient and that is what we strive to deliver through the Dogwood Hill: Design-driven cards that inspire.

Jennifer Hunt

Owner

Jennifer is the creator and founder of Dogwood Hill. Hailing from northwest Alabama, she graduated with a Master of Accountancy from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and moved to Birmingham in 1999. She led successful careers first as a Certified Public Accountant and then as an art gallery owner. Not one to be pegged down, Jennifer launched Dogwood Hill to offer a space where artfully created paper and accessibility could meet. As a gallery owner, Jennifer developed an eye for spotting talent and a skill for curating, which help ensure every artist and piece of work represented in the collective is top-notch. It’s a full job, but when she’s not working with artists, managing her business or keeping up with her two adorable and rambunctious little boys, Jennifer loves traveling with her husband, Buddy, indulging in Birmingham's great restaurants, cooking, reading and enjoying the company of friends and family.

The creative designer of Dixie Design, Holly Hollon, poses for a picture.

Holly Hollon

Creative Director

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Holly Cook Hollon happily returned to her hometown after receiving a BFA in Graphic Design at Auburn University. After working in the field of advertising, she began her own business to pursue her creative interests, focusing on working with small businesses, creating logos and branding systems, and with brides, creating wedding stationery suites. The unique design aesthetic of Holly’s work has been influenced by her skills in illustration and calligraphy. Using hand drawn techniques and drawings gives her designs a personal and rare touch. In recent years, the American Advertising Federation named Holly “Designer of the Year” and “Illustrator of the Year” in its Addy Awards ceremony and Town and Country magazine named her one of the top 8 Wedding Illustrators in the country. Her work has been featured in other renowned media outlets such as Southern Living, Design Sponge, and Oh So Beautiful Paper, among others. The designer spends her free time cooking, indulging in chick-flicks, scavenging estate sales, and spending time with her two daughters, two poodles and husband, Charlton.

Shelby Boston

Designer

Shelby is a graphic designer with a passion for detail. She believes design has a unique ability to tell a story. After graduating from Auburn University with a BFA in Graphic Design she remained on the plains to work with a campus ministry for a couple of years. There she built relationships and traveled overseas on mission trips before moving down to 30A in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. After some brief work in the advertising and publishing field, she started pursuing her own creative interests as a designer. She sees creativity as a tool for communication and loves to create things that give people an avenue for connecting and sharing stories. She has quickly adapted to being a 30a local and, in her free time, you will find her exploring her small beach town with friends or browsing her favorite bookstores for new reads and admiring all their stationery.

Addie McElwee

Designer

Addie is a North Carolina native with Southern Louisiana roots, so she feels right at home in the middle of those two places here in Birmingham, Alabama. Shortly after graduating from UNC, Chapel-Hill with a degree in Graphic Design and Journalism, she moved to Birmingham to work for Southern Living magazine. In her time with Southern Living, she was able to help with photoshoots and photo styling and create ads for the magazine. She has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember. It was at UNC where she was introduced to the role that creativity and design can play in delivering a powerful message. She continues to put paintbrush to paper with a whimsical and quirky flair and her favorite subjects include house portraits and dogs. Some of her most treasured time is spent walking with friends, visiting on her (any!) porch and trying new restaurants and coffeeshops in town. She is amazed at the role graphic design can play in bringing to life a small business, city or even a street and wants to bring everyday-creativity to what she does and to those she is with!

Lucy Young

Designer

Lucy, a Birmingham native, has gravitated towards coastal towns since graduating from Auburn University with a BFA in Graphic Design. After a fellowship with Coastal Living magazine, she worked as the Assistant Art Director for a boutique marketing firm and publishing house along the shores of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. While there, she began to introduce watercolor illustrations into her layout designs, and she quickly fell in love with the technique. After marrying her husband Patrick in the summer of 2017, she made the move to Mobile, Alabama, where she currently resides and works as a full time graphic designer, illustrator, and calligrapher. She finds so much joy in bringing ideas to life through typography, color and paper. Taking walks with her husband under the oak trees throughout Mobile and curling up with an good book are some of her favorite ways to relax and unwind.

Bethany Bass

Designer

Bethany has always called Birmingham, Alabama home and, after receiving her BFA in Graphic Design at Auburn University, she could not get back to the Magic City fast enough. After starting her career in the world of advertising, Bethany quickly realized she was interested in doing more than just design work and decided to transition into a role that more adequately fit her even right brain/left brain split. With a passion for creative storytelling and brand development, Bethany has been able to surround herself with a diverse group of creative partners with whom she works as a designer, project manager, producer and problem solver. Though everyday looks a little different, Bethany will always make time to travel with her husband, Jeff, enjoy delicious food and snuggle with her dog, Max.

Lindsey Jennings

Designer

Lindsey is a graphic designer and artist with a love for color and detail. As a North Alabama native, she quickly found herself settling back into her hometown of Huntsville, after receiving her BFA in Graphic Design and Marketing from Auburn University. After a few years working as the Marketing Director for a local non-profit, Lindsey left the corporate world to pursue her dream of creating art and design for the most special moments in someone’s life. Whether rebranding small companies, creating nursery art or custom stationery, she loves the process of bringing others’ stories to life! When she doesn’t have a paintbrush or laptop in hand, Lindsey enjoys traveling with her husband, DJ, spending time outdoors with their friends and family and snuggling up with their pup, Hank, and a good movie.

Sloan Crawford

Marketing and Blog Editor

Sloan, a Birmingham native, loves to weave words together to tell stories. She completed her undergraduate degree in Journalism and Public Relations from Samford University and her graduate degree in Public Relations and Advertising from the University of Alabama. While in school, Sloan held a variety of editorial and marketing jobs, including positions at Southern Living, The Birmingham Museum of Art, and the Tuscaloosa Mayoral Office. After completing her Master’s degree, Sloan married her best friend, Chase, and landed a job coordinating the marketing and social media for a large Birmingham law firm. Sloan now stays at home with her two little boys, Jack and James. During afternoon nap times and at night, you can find her cranking out emails, blog posts and newsletters to promote the beautiful stationery lines of Dixie Design. And in her spare time, you can find her with her nose in a fiction book or a Bible study, researching new dinner recipes, or hanging out with her boys and husband.
